DON'T LET LOVE WALK OUT OF YOUR LIFE (John Trimmer/Tom Gill)

I knew a man, he taught me a lot about the world.
Lived in a mansion he called home, lived there all alone.
He said to me, don't let love walk out of your life
I've been down that road before, and I paid an awful price.

Don't let love walk out of your life.
Don't let love walk out of your life.
Don't let love spend a minute away from you.
Don't let love walk out of your life.

Many years ago, there was a woman in my life,
We'd have coffee in the morning and she'd wait for me at night.
You see, I spent my time trying to make an extra buck
But believe me son these finer things can't replace her touch.

Don't let love walk out of your life
Don't let love walk out of your life
When your cold and lonely, it won't matter who's right
Don't let love walk out of your life

Weary eyes and lost expression spoke of love and time gone by.
He said I'd give all these worldly possessions
Just to hold her one more time.

Don't let love walk out of your life,
Don't let love walk out of your life,
Don't let love spend a minute away from you,
Don't let love walk out of your life.
When your cold and lonely, It don't matter who's wrong or right.
Don't let love walk out of your life.

IF YOUR GONNA BE DUMB (Tom Gill)

My very first real job when I was a teen
Was toting wood and pounding nails,
I was a working machine.
Trying to make a good impression on the boss and the crew.
Determined to show'em just what I could do.
So, I raced up on a ladder with an eight pound sledge
With both hands flung it back over my head
Woke up on the floor and the boss man said to me -

If your gonna be dumb, you better be tough.
If you don't use your head son, your life's gonna to be rough.
You don't have to be an Einstein
To know when muscles ain't enough.
If your gonna to be dumb, helps to be young
But you better be tough

Well, we pulled out of Bristol right after the race
And on I-81 I was settin' the pace,
But an unscheduled pit stop around the bend
Landed me back in court for speeding again.
Well I told the judge I know that I was playin' the jerk
But if you take my license now I'll have to walk to work.
He just grinned and then he said to me -

If your gonna be dumb, you better be tough.
If you don't use your head son
Your life's gonna to be rough.
You don't have to be an Einstein
To know when "I'm sorry" ain't enough.
If your gonna to be dumb, helps to be young
But you better be tough

Well, I think I learned my lesson and believe me folks I really try
Not to do those things that cause me pain or make a grown man cry,
But just last week I went out with the boys
And I wound up havin' too much fun
And the morning found me with my head in my hands
Wondering what I'd done.

APPLE AT THE TOP OF THE TREE (John Trimmer/Tom Gill)

I remember well one afternoon drive, just my Dad and me.
See, I had fallen and broken my arm climbing in the apple tree.
He said, son why'd you go so high, we're lucky your not dead.
But I'm glad you didn't land on your head.

I said I just wanted the apple at the top of the tree
The sweetest ones are always a little out of reach
And at that time nothing else would do.

I guess I always want the best in everything I do
And I still want the best and that means wanting you.
Sometimes you seem out of reach
Far above my head, listen now to every word that's said.

Cause I still want the apple at the top of the tree.
The sweetest one of all, that's what you are to me,
And if I say that nothing else would do
I mean nothing else but loving you.

If you just can't say you love me tonight,
I won't stop wanting you.
'Cause I can wait 'til those words
feel right and you say them
only to me.

HOLD ON (Tom Gill)

When you told me you were leaving,
Well, it took me by surprise.
You see I never really knew you were that sad
Yes we're not much better off now
Than when we first tied the knot
But you can't deny the love that we've had.

So darling please hold on, hold on.
Nothing good can come that fast.
You have to think about the good times,
Don't dwell in all the pain
If you wanna build a love that will last.

I admit our lives have turned out
Much different than we planned.
Youthful dreams faded into reality
And although our precious dream house
Is really still a dream,
We can splash the stream and hug all the trees.

So darling please hold on, hold on.
Nothing good can come that fast.
You gotta lay a firm foundation
And slowly work from there
If you wanna build a love that will last.

I know I'm not what you want me to be
But Lord I'm just what I am.
Can't you see what this is doing to me
I still want to be your only man

So darling hold on, hold on.
Nothing good can come that fast.
Won't you think about the good times,
Don't dwell in all the pain
If you wanna build a love that will last.

So darling please hold on, hold on.
Nothing good can come that fast.
Won't you take a look around us
And give thanks for what we've got
And go on to build a love that will last
If you wanna build a love that will last.

HEAVEN IN THE PINES (Jerry Fletcher)

I've lived out on the highway and I've seen alot of roads.
But the only one that matters now
Is the one that takes me home.
Cause love is waiting for me
Standing in the doorway lookin' fine, so fine
She's my little bit of heaven,
My little bit of heaven in the pines.

Her hair smells like honeysuckle hangin' from the vine.
Her cherry lips are sweeter
Than her daddy's homemade wine.
That little girl is somethin'
Her country lovin's comin' right on time, right on time.
She's my little bit of heaven
My little bit of heaven in the pines.

Heaven in the pines she's callin'
Country boy bring your lovin' home
And my heart's rollin' like a train down a mountain
In my mind I can hear that whistle blow.
Lawd I've got to go.

Got a house out in the country with a little picket fence.
It ain't that much to look at, but it's fine the way it is
'Cause its doing what it's made for
And most of all its paid for and it's mine, it's all mine.
It's where my little bit of heaven is
My little bit of heaven in the pines.

Well we'll play some country music
And I'll take her in my arms.
We'll go dancing and romancing
Out there underneath the stars.
Then late at night we cuddle
And all our troubles seem so far behind.
Yeah, it's heaven here on earth
With my little bit of heaven in the pines.

IT'S YOUR LOVE (John Trimmer)

It's your love that keeps me coming
It's your love that drives me wild
It's your love I want
and I want it all the time, all the time.

You're a cool drink of water on a long hot summer night.
You're like a soft wind that taunts me
And only you can make me feel this right.
And I know if I can't have you
And I can't get you out of my mind
I'm headed for a broken heart this time.

I can't put my finger on it, if I could I'd be a better man.
She's a very special woman, you make me feel like a special man.
And I know if I can't have you,
Or if I can't get you out of my mind.
I'm headed for a broken heart this time.

It's your love that drives me crazy.
It's your love that just might save me.
It's your love I want and I want it all the time.

LOVE WON'T SAVE FOR A RAINY DAY (John Trimmer/Tom Gill)

When you hold that special person
And she stirs feelings down inside,
Look into her eyes so deeply
The whole world seems to just pass you by.

Tell her all the words you've held back and wanted to say
Cause love won't wait on you, it won't save for a rainy day.
Take a chance and roll your dice, say what you have to say.
Love won't wait on you, it won't save for a rainy day.

You spent the first part of your life watchin'
As that old river passed you by.
Jumping in, it might hurt some
But love is waiting on the other side.

Knowing the right time to speak
Comes easier to some than others,
But saving your feelings for her
Won't get you across the water.

SHE DON'T COOK (Tom Gill)

When I was a young boy my momma said son
Soon your gonna be a man.
You gotta get yourself a woman that's young and strong
And good with the pots and pans.
Make sure she's frugal with the money, firm with the kids
And always there to please her man.
And though I tried to take in every single word she said
I guess I just didn't understand,

Cause momma she don't cook, she don't clean
She don't know nothing 'bout a sewing machine.
There's nothing but rust in my frying pan,
I'm on a first name basis with the pizza man.
I get up in the morning working hard all day
Just to make the monthly payments on the money she's saved
Ask me why I stay, ask the Lord above
Oh my baby knows how to love.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to complain,
She means everything to me.
From the first time I ever held her close
I knew that it was meant to be.
I was hypnotized by the light in her eyes
And blindsided by her charms.
But I guess there were some things that I just couldn't see
Until she moved out on the farm.

She don't cook and she don't clean
But you ought to see her dancin' in tight blue jeans.
There's nothing but rust in my frying pan
But when she holds me close, I'm a happy man.
I get up in the morning, working hard all day
Just to take her out on Friday, dance my blues away.
Ask me why I stay, I ask the Lord above
Oh my baby knows how to love,
Oh my baby knows how to love,
Oh my baby really knows how to love!

COUNTRY IN MY SOUL (Jerry Fletcher)

Goin' down to the river, it's been a long hot day.
I've worked in the fields all morning, time to get away.
Sunshine, blue skies, and an old cane fishing pole,
Gotta take it easy, put some country in my soul.

I've got country deep down in my soul
It's a way of livin' some folks never know.
Wouldn't trade this feeling for diamonds or gold.
Life is simple when there's country in your soul.

I've lived in the country all my life.
When it comes to a good time, I don't need the city lights.
Just call up the neighbors,
Lawd you know we'll have some fun
Or I can rock in the moonlight in the arms of the one I love.

It's a way of life, it's a state of mind
And anyone can have it if it's yours to find.

I won't say it's easy, this life that I love.
You can find me working before the sun is up
I won't make my money where some factory whistle blows.
Folks say the boy's got too much country in his soul.

DEVIL MOVED IN (John Trimmer)

So a truck pulls up late one day
Starts unloading boxes in the usual way.
About the time things seem to be going my way
She's a devil moved in and she's here to stay.

The day the devil moved in things got hot.
And it was never the same in this here spot.
But my jealous woman's gonna win.
The day the devil moved in.

It started with the ol' "I need some sugar please".
Well, she was at my door and it was plain to see
She had set her sights on little ol' me.
And it was about that point that my baby said "freeze"!
She said, "Now, you can stay next door
And mind your own business,
But with the Lord above as my witness
You can't have my man!" -
The day the devil moved in.
#####
Now I don't want no cat fights in my living room,
But looking like that could be the devil's doom.
I know my baby won't stand for this
Cause when my baby gets mad, she gets pissed.

MOTHER LODE (John Trimmer)

An old man roams these hills
At least that's what the people say around here.
Still looking for the gold,
Many came to find but few could hold.

Well, he roams these hills with his shovel and picks
Shakes his pan full of gravel and grit.

Folks say they see him right before the sun goes down.
Some say he's just a ghost
Who lost his life chasing after that Mother Lode.
Well, he roams these hills with his shovels and picks
Shakes his pan full of gravel and grit
Looking for that Mother Lode.

That Mother Lode,
How many men died trying to find her.
Mother Lode, graves unmarked can lead to wandering souls.
Well, he roams these hills with his shovels and picks
Shakes his pan full of gravel and grit
Looking for that Mother Lode.
